Deep fried twinkles. Yes. Someone actually sells this atrocity. I caught sight of them at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk here in Northern California.
What's worse is that they're being sold is because people are actually buying and injesting these things.
This is just wrong, people!
Deep fried twinkies don't even qualify to be called food. I took a peak because I was curious what they looked like. Uh. They didn't even look tempting. At all.
Would you eat one of these? Or if you have, tell me, what was it like?
Don't get me wrong. I eat plenty of junk food when I'm out on vacation. But, this? No, thanks. I'll stick to my ice cream, popcorn, and candy apples.

No--not appealing at all!
We were just talking about this last Friday and my boss said he liked it. We have a fair going on in our city and we know there's a booth offering this. He even said that the secret for making it crispy is frying it in hot oil because you're only soaking it in oil if it's not really hot. Personally, just thinking of it makes me cringe. I'd settle for funnel cake and chocolates.
@Asianmommy: Exactly!
@Spiritual Journey: Wow! He must really not get it! Soaking vs. frying.. LOL! Yes, Hubby loves funnel cake. Chocolate -- for sure.
Ewww, that sounds pretty bad.
Have you tried them? I haven't either, but how can you say they are disgusting if you haven't tried them? Do you like green eggs and ham?
I've tried these, and they taste like fat on a stick. The texture is soggy, and the aftertaste is gross!
@Vered: Maybe it would sound better with a different name. Twinkie on a stick?
@Ares Vista: No. I haven't tried it. Maybe I would? Hmm.. I don't want to find out, I guess. (Hubby says the same thing when I try to convince him that chicken feet for dim sum is yummy. He won't touch it with his chopsticks, eventho I swear it's good). I do like green eggs and ham though! My broccoli quiche.
@download music: Oh, good. I've been waiting for someone to tell me what it tastes like. Thanks for giving me the scoop!
My husband and I tried Fried Twinkies and fried Snickers at the same time. I liked both, but the Snickers was better. Fried sweetness is still sweet and tasty, although gooey. It was a one-time experience just to say we'd done it -- I guess so I could one day reply to a post like this!
@Lori: I can tell you are a tough cookie. Fried twinkies & fried snickers.. (I'm wondering how the chocolate wouldn't melt off!)
